  1. CHAK DE INDIA started slow, picked up on Saturday and showed a jump on Sunday. At multiplexes of big centres, especially at Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, the film has had a glorious weekend. But the subject and its execution limits it to big city audiences. It’s not a film that holds universal appeal [a fact seconded by the Overseas figures]. That explains why its business at single screens ranges from average to below average.
Had CHAK DE INDIA embarked on a 90% start everywhere [ideally, it should’ve started with a bang, given the fact that the two giants – YRF and SRK – had been teamed after a hiatus; it can’t get bigger than that!] and with Saturday and Sunday figures matching those of Friday, CHAK DE INDIA would’ve been declared a massive Hit.
But CHAK DE INDIA started on a 40% – 60% note at several screens, but was 20% – 30% at several centres too. Reports from Punjab say that CHAK DE INDIA had a 10% – 20% start at some stations. Things did improve over the weekend, but Monday onwards, while the multiplexes of big centres are performing well,at centres like Indore the collections at multiplexes on Monday were at par [or lower] with Friday.
Wednesday, 15th August being Independence Day holiday, CHAK DE INDIA got a big boost and the business at multiplexes was impressive.

    This is something else !!!

  8. Every company creates a new model for its product almost every year and it has become the fashion of the day. So, how long can people tolerate the same actor again and again. The alarm bell had rung in ‘Don’ for Shah Rukh but he didn’t notice. Then, the people gave him a kind of show cause Notice in ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’, but he didn’t bother at Yellow Card. After all, he has always been playing centre forward. Hence the people who made him The King Khan, seem to be ready with a Red Card?
‘Chak De India’ has been rejected by the masses in a country where stars are made every Friday. A forty percent opening for the first day’s first show for a Shah Rukh Khan film is indeed a setback for the industry in general and for Yash Raj Films. Shimit Amin, who moved over from Ram Gopal Varma’s factory to join YRF, may not be a happy man either. He gets to direct Shah Rukh but his film doesn’t even get a good opening. Keeping in view that film business is decided now on the basis of its first three days, even word of mouth publicity will not help much to save it.
‘Chak De India’ falters at many points. To start with, its music fails to generate any kind of curiosity among masses. But I can not blame Salim Suleiman for it because they got to compose the music once the movie was over ; whatever they could do they have done on the edit table. The film then fails on story line, too. To make a film on Hockey Coach is not a good and saleable idea for Indian film industry. But, the film is not that bad, any way. It can be watched and enjoyed at your leisure. But, the people get leisure at home these days and wait for the movies like this to come on some TV channels soon.

  9. Shah Rukh Khan is popular overseas, but its not the actor that is popular, its the image. An actor like Shah Rukh Khan can not change his image and expect the audience to come rushing to the theatres. This image is what he has built himself, now however long he can, he has to continue making movies in this image… and not change.
At last the industry, and the world is coming to know, that Shah Rukh Khan is not as ‘popular’ and ‘great’ as many thought he was. He is not in the callibre of Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. These actors are able to perform and bring in the audience in whatever image they portray themselves… I am sad to say but King Khan is not able to do that. And Chak De India has proved that. You may challenge me in regards to this and say that Chak De India performed well in India, the rest doesn’t matter, but in India its 15th August… its Azaadi… and this kind of film just fits into that mood.I can finally provide proof to what people are saying out to for years… Shah Rukh Khan is no KING KHAN. He doesn’t even play in the same league as some of the other actors. Shah Rukh Khan’s magic is his image… an image that will fade away with age… My advice to this ‘golden boy’ is that he quickly finds another medium to make money in… (he has already started producing films – that might help)… I say this because the end of Shah Rukh Khan is coming… watch out for it!
